Happy New Year

Happy New Year. I cannot believe it is 2012 already.

I am a little excited about this year as I have a lot of lovely projects lined up to knit for myself but I am hoping that this year I will be able to knit them all. The projects include knitting a few hats, another chunky scarf, a poncho and a chunky cardigan. Oh! Of course, a shawl as well.

Cold and dark evenings

Well,it is that time of year. THE clocks will go back in a few days and Winter not be far behind. So out comes the gloves, hats and scarves. Must not forget to add cowls and snoods to the list of winter warmers. I spent some of day sorting through my stash of yarn and I have searched for patterns that I could uise with the stash I have available.

At the moment, I am knitting a poncho. It is looking lovely. I will post a picture when I have finished it.

Knitted this scarf this afternoon using Patons Fab big Chunky Yarn. The patern is not very clear on here but the stitch used is similar to single rib. The colour is blue.

January Knitting projects

Well! Knitting was slow for me in January due to not having time to knit. Work and visiting friends took priority. I knitted a few little things. I made a small toy dog for a knitting swap I was involved in and a balaclava. Yes, I made another one. The first I made back in Decemeber was in a burgundy colour. The second one was knitted with a tweedy like DK yarn. It was nice to knit with but slow. It took longer to knit this one than the first one.It looks lovely though. Will post a picture soon.

Winter Holiday

Well! It has been a very cold December which has been good for my knitting needles in the first half of the month. I have been knitting hats, scarves, mittens, gloves and neck ponchoes. Then I got a very bad cold that lasted ten days. Not nice when you are stuck indoors and BORED. I am feeling much better now and looking forward to new year.

Beanie hats are very popular. Close friends and family are regularly asking me to knit them one. Originally, all the hats would have the same design and some people would ask for two maybe three and that was when I started trying out different designs based on the stitches, patterns that I know that would suit a beanie hat style. Cables was a design suggested by friends.

So here are some of my attempts.

No! The blanket is not one of the designs. :-)

That was an Alphabet Train Blanket thatI finished two weeks ago. Pleased with it but I think next time I would use a chunky yarn instead of DK yarn.

It has been several months since I have posted on my blog. I have been very busy with work and then I was ill for several weeks and now I am on the mend. Not much knitting was done for a few weeks but now I am back in the swing of things I have knitted a baby blanket and lots of neck ponchoes, fingerless gloves and beanie hats. All items that we need for this very cold weather we have been having.

I am still here but very busy knitting, reading and doing other things such as meeting up with friends.

My current knitting projects and I say knitting projects as there are more than one are a Sudoku Blanket, a baby blanket, a poncho and hat and scarf set. That is enough to keep me going for a few weeks.

Anyway, let me get back to my knitting.

Hi

It has been awhile since I logged on to my blogger. Life me is very busy at the moment. So many things to do and not enough time to do it all. I am still managing to fit in some knitting but it is like an hour at a time.

I am currently knitting a lacy baby blanket, gingerbread men - I want to knit 30 to give to the children in the class I work in at the end of the Summer Term. I also need to knit a hat for my mother and a few knitted items of clothing for other people. That is a lot. So I will stop here and see if I can fit in a couple of hours before I start cooking.

Gingerbread Man

This little man did not take too long to knit. I knitted him in just over two hours. I used Sirdar DK yarn which was in my stash. It was a good way of using up the yarn. I do intend to make some more.

This gingerbrread man also has a pocket at the back that you can put your fingers in and he can run.

I started the Great American Afghan about 18mths ago and only managed to do three squares. I would like to finish that in the next year if I can. Also I wanted to make a patchwork blanket for the children at school but now the Knitting Club will be taking that project on. I think if I am honest I owuld like to knit a Sudoku blanket as I love Sudoku or there is a blanket I would like to knit in the book 100 Afghan suares to knit. I have misplaced the book otherwise I would state which one I am referring to.

Again I usually use Sirdar yarns for blankets but I am considering Rowan for the Afghan in the book.

What is your favourite way of keeping your feet warm?

Socks and slippers (sometimes with a hot water bottle depending on how cold my feet are.

I love my totes which are purple with different coloured spots on them. They are not knitted ones though.

I received this package from Nimila (Anke) for the August Knewbie Kit Swap. It has freshly roasted coffee beans, small ball of biscuits, a postcard, some crocheted flowers, some lovely green yarn with the Brea Bag pattern. I cannot wait to knit this bag when I get some time as I have a lot of projects on the go at the moment.
I also had three small scented candles.

So yesterday was an exciting day collecting my packages from the Post Office and then coming home to open them. It was lovely.

July Swap - Knewbie Kit Swap

Vlora Hat

I started knitting this a few hours ago. I am contemplating whether or not to take it on holiday or shall I just forget about knitting for a week and just read some books that have been sitting on my shelf for a long time....I think I am going to leave it.

The pattern is quite easy to follow. When I knitted the Ziggy hat it took me a few hours to get into the pattern and that was after pulling it out and starting it again several times. That pattern was a challenge.

I am knitting the Vlora hat as I am taking part in the Woolly Wormhead KAL on Ravelry.

UK SWAP 2008

I have just opened my UK SWAP package from Salsaknits and I must say it was worth the wait. It has also made my day. I needed some cheering up and that has cheered me up.

The postman actually came with the package yesterday but I was not in. I collected it from the Post Office this morning but I had to wait until this afternoon to open it as I was running a Knitting Workshop this morning.

I came hone, made some a fennel with 2 shortbread biscuits (naughty but nice) and settled to unravelling my package.

I opened my first package which was nicely wrapped. It was two balls of Sublime merino silk aran. The colour is Coast. Lovely colour.

Second package again neatly wrapped was a skein of black yarn (non-pure wool). Again that is nice.

I also got a snaller skein of yarn with a miture of green, blue, purple and brown. That's lovely too.

I have also got a lovely book called 'Scarf style' and there are a lot of lovely patterns in this book.

Thre was also patterns for hats of three designs which I look forward to knitting: Ysolda, Gretal and Verity are the names of the hat patterns.

Now in realtion to my photograph as shown on my blog. Salsaknits picked up on the waves in the picture and has attached a copy of a scarf pattern called 'Waves' too.

I mustn't forget my goodies. I havre not one but two boxes of shortbread biscuits.

Bracelet and necklace

I made this using some leftover merino yarn.
I have never made any jewellery as such but saw this simple pattern whilst browsing on the net (as you do) and thought I am going to give it aa go. It is simple enough (too simple actually). I knitted the bracelet and the necklace within 35mins.

I have used tiny bauble like buttons (silver) which adds a little glamour to it.

I am very pleased with that. I would like to make earrings. I have seen some lovely patterns. I will have to see.

Ziggy Hat by Woolly Wormhead

I like to think that I am an advanced knitter as I can knit almost anything. I enjoyed knitting this pattern. It was challenging in the beginning as I try to grasp the pattern but once I had achieved that I was able to continue with a lot more confidence.

I like the style but I feel I need to move away from knitting in plain colours and go a yarns that have a mixture of colours.

I must say I have enjoyed knitting a baby blanket made up of 66 squares and a neck poncho.

A waistcoat when I was 7. It was the first thing I made it. It was nice at the time but not something I would say was the best.

It took me 1hr and 10mins to knit this. The picture on the dishcloth should be a flower. It is not very clear in the picture.

I started the bolero style jacket about five weeks ago and finished it a few days ago. I had planned on taking a picture but forgot. It was also knitted in black so I am not sure you would have seen the pattern clearly but it is the same style as the cream one as shown in this Blog.

I really enjoyed knitting it and the finished garment looked wonderful. I made it for a friend of a friend.

Hi

Just a quick message to say I have not done much knitting for the past week due to having heat exhaustion. I know heat exhaustion. I was really ill for two days but I am feeling much better today and I cannot wait to pick up my knitting needles again.

I am still knitting a bolero style jacket for a friend and hope to finish that in the next 10 days.

It is a lovely day today but I won't be sitting in the garden knitting. I will be indoors in the cool.

I knitted the above neck poncho using two strands of Dk yarn to create a chunky weight. It was wool that was in my stash and wanted ton use up. I am quite pleased with the results.

The yarn for this scarf was the yarn that was wrapped around the goodies I received in the magic ball swap I participated in last month. It was a quick knit but I took me a little longer to knit becasue I was knitting other things in between.

I love the scarf and the stitch markers I got.

Fingerless gloves. My favourite colour too. I had chocolate, a button and a tube of beads.

That was a another nice swap.

I had a lot of goodies in this bag: a keyring, a handbag calendar, stitch markers and a postcard.

Magic Ball swap - March 2008

Neck poncho

I knitted both neck ponchos in four hours. I used black chunky wool as that was all I had in chunky. I saw the buttons at a knitting show In attended in Birmingham and thought they would look nice on the neck poncho.

Very easy to knit and looks very nice on.

Aran longline cardigan/blanket

These were so easy to knit.

I used leftover Dk wool.

Can be attached to hats, scarves, bags or just worn as a brooch.

Pram Blanket

This took me just under 15hours to do and I must say that is very quick for me.I seem to be knitting quicker now.

This is a pram blanket that was knitted for a one year old. I used DK wool but you can use chunky as well.

The blanket is 27ins long.

Chunky scarf

For the scarves I could not get the colour I wanted in chunky wool so I experimented a little. I used two strands of DK wool to create the scarves.

One is done using brown and white and the other was lilac and white. The result was lovely. It feels nice and soft and would lovely to wear on those cold winter days.

Length of each scarf is 53ins.

Gloves

This is the first pair of gloves I have made with fingers. I must say I am very pleased with them.

Lilac DK wool.It fits nicely on the hand too.

Initially I thought this would be a challenge for me but it wasn't. It took about two weeks to knit (when I add up all the hours) and I loved knitting it.

Knitted in Aran and would be an ideal item to have for those winter evenings out.

Fingerless Mittens

This is the first pair of mittens I have knitted. I was little reluctant as I have to use 4 double pointed needles but I took the plunge.It only took around 4-5hours. I enjoyed it. I shall definitely be knitting another one.

Knitted using Denim Blue Cotton DK.

This Beanie hat was knitted using DK wool. It took three hours to knit.

The bag was knitted using an Aran weight wool and is lined with either the same colour as the bag or a contrasting colour.

Available in cream, black, blue and mauve.

This bag has a cream lining and wood effect handles.

It is a small bag but it can hold your mobile phone, keys and even your make-up.

Flower bag

This is a casual bag which can be knitted in Aran.

It is lined and to finish it off has a flower in the centre.

Can be knitted in various colours: Blue, Black, Cream and Mauve.

This is the first item I have knitted for myself in a long time. It is a Aran Cabled Jacket that can be worn as a coat. Knitted in navy blue and I am looking forward to wearing it as the Autumn/Winter nights draw near.
